PORTSMOUTH — Here are some recent arrests made by the Portsmouth Police Department:
Monday, May 27
Angel Manuel Pizarro, 42, of 533 North Main Street., Apt. 2W, Fall River, was arrested on a bench warrant that had been issued by 6th District Court. According to police, Pizarro was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on Route 24 at about 1:30 p.m. because of an inoperable rear taillight.
Friday, May 31
Thomas John Mahoney, 43, of 418 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, was arrested on a 2nd District Court bench warrant after being pulled over on East Main Road around 8 a.m. for operating dangerously close to the vehicle in front of him, police said. Mahoney was also charged with driving without an active license, according to police.
Kyle R. DeMello, 31, of 42 Jesse Drive, was arrested on numerous charges after officers observed him steering his bicycle into traffic abruptly without yielding to motorists, according to police. The arrest took place in the area of Canonchet Drive and Seneca Road shortly before 6 p.m. When officers attempted to check DeMello’s condition, he failed to stop for them, police said. Officers took DeMello into custody after a brief struggle, according to police. During a search, officers discovered what was suspected to be crack cocaine in DeMello’s pocket, according to police. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a counterfeit bill or note, reckless driving/drag racing/eluding police (first offense), and resisting arrest.
Saturday, June 1
Garlan Jude Brosnahan, 34, of 24 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense, and reckless driving and eluding officers with a motor vehicle in a high-speed pursuit. Officers first spotted Brosnahan’s vehicle operating without taillights on and traveling north on West Main Road near Twin Lanterns around 1:30 a.m., according to police. Despite officers activating their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle continued onto Route 24 North and was observed swerving between lanes and crossing both white and yellow lines, police said. Tiverton Police were alerted to the pursuit and stopped the vehicle on Route 24 North just past the Main Road exit in Tiverton. Brosnahan was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
