Portsmouth waterfront estate sells for 'don’t ask'

$6.6 million sale proves infinity pools extend to bank accounts, too

PORTSMOUTH — If you recently misplaced $6.6 million in couch cushions, bad news: someone else already found a lovely way to spend it.

A waterfront estate at 272 Carnegie Harbor Drive has sold for $6,600,000 — the town’s second-highest sale on record and its priciest deal since 2023, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

The roughly 10,000-square-foot spread sits inside the gates of the Aquidneck Club, which is less a neighborhood and more a lifestyle brochure that learned to walk. The house includes five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and enough dramatic two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows to make the sunset feel like it’s performing just for you and your extremely successful accountant. There’s also an infinity pool, which is useful if you enjoy swimming toward the horizon and never emotionally arriving.

The sale was announced by Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. Alexandra Thursby represented the sellers, while Jim DeRentis of Residential Properties represented the buyer.

The home features an open-concept design, a chef’s kitchen, spa-inspired primary bath, waterfront balcony, en-suite baths for every guest bedroom, terraces, gardens, and access to golf, marina, equestrian, and tennis amenities — meaning you can be exhausted in a wide variety of elite ways.

Thursby said, “This sale highlights the resilience and continued strength of the Portsmouth and greater Aquidneck Island market. The Aquidneck Club continues to drive strong demand in this highly sought-after community. It was truly an honor to assist my clients in finding the ideal buyer for their cherished home.”

If you’re heartbroken, take comfort: another nearby property, at 231 Carnegie Harbor Drive, is still available — as long as you’re OK with something a little smaller and cozier. The five-bedroom, 7.5-bath, 5,270-square-foot home on 1.67 acres could be yours for a mere $5.699 million.
