The man accused of murdering a Little Compton resident in Newport six months ago has been indicted by the statewide grand jury on a charge of murder.

Tyrese Poulsen, 18, of Newport, is scheduled for arraignment Thursday, Dec. 16 in Newport County Superior Court. He has been held without bail since the time of his arrest.

Prosecutors allege that Poulsen stabbed Little Compton resident Maximus "Max" Julian, 22, in the neck as he tried to break up a fight that had broken out at a house party he was attending on Thames Street early on the morning of Sunday, May 30.

Julian, a University of Rhode Island student who was about to graduate with honors in business and marketing, was also a well-known fisherman and worked out of the Point Trap Company at Sakonnet Point. Though he was transported to Newport Hospital minutes after the stabbing, he died Tuesday, June 1.

Of the assailant, Mr. Diago said shortly after losing his son, “If (Poulsen) could comprehend what he took from this world ... he would know what an evil thing he did.”
