Armando Garcia, 86, of Bristol

Armando Garcia, 86, of Hope Street, Bristol, and formerly of State Street, passed away on May 21, 2021, at home.  He was the husband of Maria Eduarda da Silva Alves Garcia.

Born in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was son of the late Jose and Amerantina (da Silva) Garcia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Nell Cadette and her husband Joseph; Amanda Garcia; Edwina Melanson and her husband Guy; and Nina Morin and her fiancé Peter Gesualdi. He was the grandfather of Keith Cadette, Cyndy Cadette-Rivers, Michelle Colacchio, Jeanine Garcia, Holly Proulx, David Accardi Jr., Gregory Morin, Jacob Morin and Kyle Morin; great-grandfather of Kaylee Cadette, Vivian Cadette, Evan Prosper Cadette-Rivers, Dylan Colacchio, Kiara Costa, Darious Costa, Xavier Costa, Jovan Garcia, Savion Garcia, Imani Collazo, Danika Jordan Frazier, Jason Douglas Frazier and Nyla Ann Accardi; and great-great-grandfather of Ellani Skye Silva and Malia Rayne Silva. He was the brother of Manuel Garcia and the late Joao Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Carolina Barbosa, Maria Cordeiro and Jose Garcia.

Mr. Garcia was employed as a boat builder for TPI before retiring.

His funeral services were held May 26 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Holly Proulx and Cindy Rivers. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Jacob Morin. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Keith Cadette, Darious Costa, Xavier Costa, Jacob Morin, Kyle Morin and Gregory Morin.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
