Question: Since the council will have a role in the process, do you support “Option 2B” of the Barrington School Department’s master facilities plan?

Kate Berard (D) — “I trust the process, our officials, and volunteers, but Option 2B would not earn my vote. Our schools need updating. While the Town Council role is limited, I see the way forward as a more piecemeal and measured effort focusing on immediate needs: the high-school roof and Primrose School capacity.”

Jarrod Ryan (R) — “No, I don’t support ‘Option 2B.’ We need to protect our small neighborhood schools at all levels of government. There is a drastic difference between the learning environments of grades K-3 and grades 4-5. In recognizing this difference, the Barrington school age development sets itself apart from all the rest.”

Braxton Medlin (D) — (Medlin chose not to answer this week’s question.)

Ray Clark (R) — “I am not convinced that consolidating the elementary schools and closing down Sowams will be beneficial to students or fiscally responsible. I don't think that alternatives have been given enough consideration and I don't think the repercussions of adopting 2B have been adequately studied and discussed. I oppose option 2B.”
