Athletes celebrate Special Olympics meet, in their words

Fifteen Special Olympians from the Westport Middle High School recently competed in a regional meet at Dartmouth High School, their biggest event of the year. After it was all over, the pizza finished and the medals collected, middle school special education teacher Dianne Pereira Aldrich asked her students to write about their experiences. They spent a few weeks working on their responses and she sent them to the Shorelines this week. Congratulations athletes!

On Monday May 20th my class went to the Special olympics. I ran in a race. I tried my best. It was fun! I kicked a soccer ball. A goalie tried to stop it from going in. I kicked it hard. I also threw a javelin and played tug of war. It was a fun day! In the end I won a medal! My favorite part of the day was kicking the soccer ball into the goal!

My class and I went to the Special Olympics. I threw a javelin and a football. They went far. We took turns kicking soccer balls. I kicked the ball and knocked over pins. I also kicked the ball into the net; I scored! I ran a race and jumped the hurdles. After that I won a medal. I was so happy! My favorite part was kicking the soccer ball into the net!

On Monday, I went to the Special Olympics. My first event was the javelin throw. I threw the javelin 10 feet! Then I competed in the high jump. I made it over with ease. I jumped over the rope in the long jump. Finally, I did tug of war. It was awesome. Last, we kicked a soccer ball into the net. When we were finished we ate pizza. My favorite part was running!

We went to the Special Olympics yesterday. I ran around the field and I jumped the hurdles. I had fun! I raced in and out of the poles. I took turns with my friends. I also played tug of war. It was hard but fun. I won a medal! My favorite part of the trip was jumping the hurdles.
