Barrington Little League’s 8U All Star team beat Fox Point-East Side Little League 13-9 on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Barrington ended pool play 3-0, securing the four-seed and a first-round bye in the single-elimination Andreozzi Tournament. 

Jack Harding led the way for Barrington, getting two hits, including a double to left field in the first inning that drove in a run and giving Barrington a 2-1 lead. The Eagles never trailed again after that hit.

Hudson Lang started on the mound for Barrington and earned the win. He pitched two-plus innings and left the game after 50 pitches with a 6-2 lead.

Nine different Barrington players scored and the team had six hits, including doubles by Harding and Grant Garneau. Arrow Pierce-Sanchez, Sam Donatelli, Tommy Grossman and Harding each scored twice.

Jaxon Sawyer made several plays at second base, helping to stop potential Fox Point rallies. 

Caden Corcoran came in to pitch in the fourth inning and got four outs to secure the win. He faced seven batters, walking two and striking out three. 

The game ended in dramatic fashion. A Fox Point batter hit a long fly ball that appeared to be heading toward the gap between left and left-centerfield. Donatelli, Barrington's left fielder, sprinted to his left and made a catch on the run to get the final out. The Barrington players mobbed Donatelli in the outfield before lining up to congratulate Fox Point on a tough game.

Barrington finished pool play in the Andreozzi Tournament undefeated. They beat Narragansett by a score of 9-8 on Saturday, July 27 and beat Middletown 11-2 on Thursday night. 

Barrington will play again on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. Barrington will play the winner of the play-in game between No. 5 Cumberland (2-1) and No. 12 Mt. Pleasant (1-2).

Riding strong pitching from Grant Garneau and Caden Corcoran, Barrington defeated Middletown’s 7/8 All Star team 11-2 earlier in the tournament. The win improved Barrington’s record to 2-0. 

“This team continues to play hard and battle. They are living proof that when kids work hard and have fun that wins come in bunches,” said Barrington Manager Mike Raia. “Every player is contributing to our success.”

Garneau pitched two-plus innings and gave up only two runs. He left the game with a 7-2 lead and earned the win. Corcoran, one of three seven-year-olds on the team, pitched 2.2 innings, walked one batter, struck out five, and gave up no hits. Jack Harding secured the win by striking out the final batter of the game on three pitches.

In all, the three Barrington pitchers allowed only five batters to reach base and gave up only one hit and a single walk. 

Will Glass, a rising second-grader at Primrose Hill School, made two spectacular defensive plays in right field to kill any prospect of a rally by Middletown. Glass also led the team with three stolen bases. Barrington stole 10 bases.

Donatelli made an important play in left field in the first inning that saved a run and set the tone for the entire game. Donatelli tracked down a ball hit to the fence and kept the runner from advancing past second base. He threw a strike to third base which saved a run. Barrington got out of the jam during the next at bat.

Harding led the way at the plate for Barrington. Harding went 2-for-3, had two RBI, and scored a run. Garneau and Reid Raia each scored two runs. Nine players scored runs for Barrington.
