Barrington boys finish fourth, girls finish 12th at track states

The Barrington High School boys and girls track teams competed at the RI Track and Field State Championships at Brown University on Saturday. 

The BHS boys team finished fourth overall, while the girls team tied for 12th. 

Asher Robbins and Ben Hill led the way for the boys team. Robbins finished second in the hammer throw, while Hill was second in the pole vault. 

Ethan Knight ran to third place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. 

Two Barrington High School records were also set at the state meet. The 4x100-meter relay team of Nate Greenberg, Andrew Blazewicz, Iain DeBoth, and Jackson O'Connor finished third and set a new BHS record of 43.51. 

Brandon Piedade finished third in the 3,000-meter race and set a new school record of 8:42.24. 

Liam Capozza finished fourth in the hammer throw and Greenberg was fifth in the 100- and 200-meter races. Also, the 4x800-meter relay team of Andrew Rego, Charlie Stockwell, Myles Napolitano, and Brandon Piedade placed fourth. 

A number of BHS athletes will compete in the New England Track Championships in New Britain, Conn. this weekend. 

Girls finish 12th

The Barrington High School girls track team scored 17 points and finished tied for 12th place. 

Sophia Ford, Maddie Gill and Lily Cregan led the way for Barrington in the individual events. Ford finished third in the long jump with a distance 17 feet, 1 inch. Gill finished third in the javelin with a distance of 114 feet, 2 inches. And Cregan was sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 139 feet, 10 inches. 

Barrington also picked up key points in relay events. Kyle Keough, Caroline Reznik, Indie Lamb and Sara Chang teamed up for a fourth place finish in the 4x800-meter relay. Sarah Yee, Helena Defanti, Chelsea Duncan, and Gill combined for a seventh place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. 

Boys are third at Class A meet

The Barrington High School boys track team finished third at the Class A championship meet recently.

Ethan Knight was Barrington’s lone Class A champ — Knight won the 110-meter hurdles and also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles. Barrington High School also boasted a number of second place finishers: Asher Robbins in the hammer throw, Nate Greenberg in the 200-meter race, and Ben Hill in the pole vault. 

Andrew Blazewicz finished third in the high jump, while Liam Capozza was third in the hammer throw, Charly Potter was third in the javelin, and Bobby Wind was third in the 110-meter hurdles. 

Two BHS relay teams captured third-place finishes. The Eagles 4x800-meter relay team of Charlie Stockwell, Myles Napolitano, Holden Vaughan, and Brandon Piedade finished third, as did the 4x10-meter relay team of Greenberg, Blazewicz, Iain DeBoth and Jackson O’Connor.
