Fin Thomson scored on a two-out balk in the bottom of the eighth inning and helped the Barrington High School baseball team defeat St. Raphael's 3-2 in a Division II playoff game on Friday evening, May 31.
Barrington (19-4) advances to the Division II Pod 2 finals on Sunday at East Greenwich at 1 p.m.
Thomson led off the eighth inning with a single and advanced to second on Miles Fontaine's sacrifice bunt. After an out, Quinny Murphy drew an intentional walk. Trevor Snow blasted a single to left field and with Luke Tanous at bat, the Saints pitcher balked and allowed Thomson to score.
Thomson was 2-for-4 with a run batted in, and Nick Scandura was also 2-for-4.
Gabe Tanous tripled in the first inning and scored on an error, and Fontaine also doubled.
Freshman Miles Dolan pitched a hit-less, scoreless eighth inning for his first varsity victory. Prior to Dolan taking the mound, Jack Lawson, Ted Coon and Dave Redmond combined to limit the Saints to three hits and one unearned run.
