Barrington finishes third at gymnastics state meet

The Barrington High School gymnastics team scored 137.45 points and finished third in the state championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Rhode Island College. 

The Warwick Co-op team won the title with a score of 138.775, followed by South Kingstown in second with 138.025 points. Portsmouth finished fourth, Middletown was fifth and Mt. Hope finished sixth. 

Sarah Henderson led the way for Barrington. The junior finished tied for fifth in the all-around — she scored 35.2 points. Her top individual event came in the vault where she finished with 9.1 points. That was the sixth-best score in the vault during the state meet.

Henderson scored an 8.85 on floor, 8.7 on beam, and 8.55 on bars. 

Henderson’s teammate, Sophie Dunham, finished fifth in the vault with a score of 9.15 and sixth in the all-around with 35 points. Dunham finished with an 8.65 on the bars and beam, and an 8.55 on floor. 

Ellie Noonan tallied a score of 33.7 in the all-around for the Eagles, which was strong enough for 16th place overall. Noonan finished with a score of 8.9 on the vault, 8.6 on the floor, 8.3 on the beam, and 7.9 on bars. 

Adrienne Kollie had the sixth-best score on beam. The Barrington High School junior finished with a 9, which was just one-tenth of a point out of third place. Kollie scored an 8.45 on the vault, an 8.3 on the floor, and finished with a 7.8 on the bars. 

Abigail Crowell and Sadie Stern also competed for Barrington in the state championship meet on Saturday. Crowell scored an 8.05 on vault, 7.35 on floor, 6 on beam, and 5.9 on bars, while Stern had a 7.75 on vault, 7.45 on floor, 6.45 on beam, and 5.55 on bars. 

The top score in the all-around went to LaSalle Academy’s Lauren Horrigan, who finished with a 36.6.
