The Barrington High School girls outdoor track team opened the dual-meet season with wins over Portsmouth and Mt. Hope on Tuesday, April 5.

The Eagles, who won 12 of the 18 events overall, outscored the Patriots 112-43, and the Huskies 129-24.

"This was a great start to the season!” Barrington High School Coach Ed Roskiewicz said. “We have over 70 girls out for the team and our team depth and leadership at the top really showed today.

“Our sport is great because it offers something (track and field events) for everyone and I'm excited to watch our team members develop as athletes and individuals."

Grace Saal led the way for Barrington. Saal, one of the team’s three captains this spring, won the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump. Jordan Roskiewicz ran to a first place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and Ellie Noonan captured the top spot in the high jump.

Barrington’s Sarah Yee sprinted to a win in the 200-meter race, and Kyle Keough finished first in the 3,000-meter event.

The Eagles’ quartet of Chelsea Duncan, Maddie Gill, Olivia Johnson and Helena DeFanti proved fastest in the 4x100-meter relay race.

In the field events, Barrington had four competitors finish first. Gill outdistanced the rest of the field in the javelin, and Marie Choi-Schattle won the pole vault. Lily Cregan won the hammer throw, and Eva Garofano finished first in the discus.
