Isys Dunphy had a strong night and finished with a double-double in points and rebounds while leading the Barrington High School girls basketball team to a 60-30 win over Scituate on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Dunphy scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles, while Maddie Gill added 12 points and four assists. Riley Graveline finished with nine points and six rebounds, and Janaya Prince Baquero had eight points and seven assists.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 in the division.
On Friday, Jan. 5, Barrington defeated Portsmouth, 64-57.
Dunphy scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for the Eagles. The junior standout also grabbed five steals against the Patriots.
Gill scored 12 points for the Eagles while Prince Baquero finished with 13 points and six assists. Graveline dropped in nine points and grabbed nine rebounds also.
Both teams entered the game with 3-1 league records, and Portsmouth was riding a short winning streak. The Eagles and Patriots were knotted at 52-52 with four minutes to play, but the Eagles pulled away down the stretch.
Two days earlier, on Jan. 3, the Eagles handed Ponaganset its first loss of the season. Barrington topped the Chieftains, 57-54, at Ponaganset High School. Dunphy had another double-double — she scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Prince Baquero scored 16 points and dished seven assists, and Gill added 14 points.
Barrington High School Coach Stephen Lenz said his team also spent the holiday break playing in a tournament in New Hampshire that featured some of the top high school teams in the Granite State. The Eagles lost their three games, “but the competition made us a better team,” Lenz added.
