Barrington Middle School project options to be unveiled tonight

Posted

Plans for a new or renovated Barrington Middle School will take center stage at a school committee meeting tonight, Jan. 20.

The meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. inside the middle school library, will feature a presentation from Kaestle Boos Associates, the firm hired to design a new or renovated middle school. Officials are expected to share cost estimates for both construction options — a new building or major renovations and an addition to the existing building.

"Barrington Public Schools has begun the process of replacing Barrington Middle School with a state-of-the-art educational facility," stated the district's website. "The existing building, built in 1952 and not renovated extensively since 1968, does not meet the educational and extra-curricular needs of the school community."

Tonight's meeting will be followed by another meeting on Monday, Jan. 25, where school committee members will vote on the proposals to be submitted to the Rhode Island Department of Education for the "Phase II approval stage." The town council is also expected to vote upon the project in the near future.
