Barrington Middle School Coach Larson Gunness said the division championships were great wins for both Barrington teams.
“The kids all worked really hard and struggled through adversity this season of weather and various injuries,” Gunness said. “We also had an injury in the first running event of our top boy sprinter that could have dampened the spirit of our whole team. But the kids rallied and focused in on the work at hand.
“I’m very proud of how these kids persevered and competed. In the end they seemed to have a lot of fun at this challenging divisional meet. They relaxed as the meet progressed and they did what they do: compete and win. I tell them they do not have to have the best day of their lives to do well at these big meets. All they need to do is have a normal meet, because for them normal is dominant.”
The Barrington Middle School teams will compete in the State Championship meet on May 19.
