The Barrington High School football team will play its Injury Fund game against Middletown tonight, Friday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Barrington High School's Victory Field, but school officials moved the game to Gaudet School in Middletown because they were concerned about the condition of Victory Field. The Barrington field is reportedly still wet after the torrential downpours on Wednesday night; Gaudet School field has an artificial turf surface.

Friday's game will be the first time either team has squared off against an opposing squad this season. Most years, high school teams hold preseason scrimmages prior to Injury Fund games, but the schedule did not allow for that this year, said BHS Coach Sandy Gorham.

"They're going out there cold," Coach Gorham said about his team.

He added: "It's not an ideal situation, but everybody's in the same boat."

Barrington won the Division II Super Bowl last spring, finishing the year undefeated and celebrating a commanding win over St. Raphael's Academy in the finals. Coach Gorham said he returns a handful of starters to this year's team, and plans to use this Injury Fund game as an opportunity to evaluate as many of his players as possible.

"My dilemma is 'Do I extend the 1's a little longer, and give them more time?' I also want to give the younger kids an opportunity," he said. "Every kid has earned an opportunity to play."
