Law Enforcement Torch Run offers key support for Special Olympics

Posted

Members of the Barrington Police and Fire Departments showed their support for Rhode Island Special Olympics by participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run earlier this month.

Local police officers and firefighters took turns carrying the “Flame of Hope” across Barrington.

The group waited at the foot of the Warren River Bridge where they took possession of the torch from Warren law enforcement.

Barrington Police and Fire officials then carried the torch along County Road, through the center of town, to the intersection with Federal Road. They turned west down Federal, past the Barrington Public Safety Building, and then turned north onto the Middle Highway.

The team of runners and bike riders later turned west onto Route 103, and handed off to East Providence law enforcement in the shopping plaza parking lot on Willett Avenue.

In addition to the torch run, local police officers and firefighters presented medals to the Special Olympics athletes during the games, which were held on the URI campus.

Barrington’s law enforcement and fire department contingent included Barrington Police Officer Kelsey Maynard, Police Chief Michael Correia, Police Officers Tim Oser, Regan Jeffrey, Sean Murphy and Josh Melo, and Barrington Firefighters Jesus Sanchez and Ed Owens.
