Barrington police responded a variety of calls last week, including one about the new tennis courts at Barrington Middle School.
The school resource officer was called to the new tennis courts at Barrington Middle School on Monday, March 29, after someone reported damage to the playing surface. The reporting party said it appeared someone had taken an axe to the courts, but the officer said there appeared to be scratches and the damage was not bad enough to impact use of the courts.
• No trespassing order: Barrington police issued a no trespass order to a Warren resident for the CVS Pharmacy in the Barrington Shopping Center on Monday, March 29. Store employees called police to report that the woman was being combative. She had allegedly called the store to check on a prescription and was told that it would not be ready until the next morning. Store employees told police the woman showed up a short time later and was yelling at the workers. Police later issued the woman the no trespass order.
• Two people arrested: On Wednesday, March 31, Barrington police received multiple anonymous phone calls from people reporting that two people were living in a vehicle parked in a driveway on Allen Avenue. The callers said it appeared that a male and female had been living out of the vehicle for about two weeks. Police responded the scene at about 5:45 p.m. and located a man sitting inside of the vehicle smoking. They later found the female inside the home where the vehicle was parked. Police checked the IDs of the individuals and both had active warrants out for their arrests. Police then arrested Kerrie Oliveira, 33, of 15 Allen Ave., on a warrant or capias from superior court, and Brandon J. Shorts, 37, of East Providence, on a bench warrant issued from Sixth Division District Court, and two warrants or capias from superior court.
• Workers sent away: On Sunday, April 4, a Juniper Street resident called police at 4:55 a.m. after two men who were supposed to be doing work at the home refused to leave. The resident said the men possibly had firearms in the car. Police responded to the scene, ordered the men out of the vehicle and searched the vehicle. No guns were found. The men said they had been hired by the homeowner to do work on the house, starting at 9 p.m. and working through the night. The occupant apparently woke up and found the men there, got angry and ordered them to leave.
• Mailbox damaged: A Waterway resident told police a group of juveniles destroyed his mailbox late Saturday night, April 3, or early Sunday morning. Video from the home’s doorbell camera showed a group of eight juveniles walking south on Waterway at 10:45 p.m., and then stop near the mailbox. There was a loud bang and then the teens fled.
