Local football teams fall to East Bay

The Barrington Pop Warner football teams dropped league games against the East Bay Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 3.

The 10U Eagles scored when quarterback Vincent Baccari connected with Mack DiOrio, who ran the ball into the end zone. But the lone touchdown was not enough as the Eagles lost to the Warriors, 39-6. Barrington’s record slipped to 0-2.

The 12U Eagles dropped to 1-1 after losing to East Bay 20-9 on Saturday. Barrington turned the ball over five times during the game, including twice inside the five yard line.

The Eagles scored on two defensive plays: Jack Leduc knocked the ball loose from an East Bay player and Colby Newton scooped up the fumble and sprinted into the end zone; Barrington’s defense also had a safety in the game.

“We didn’t lose, we just ran out of time,” said Barrington 12U Coach Ty Paup. “I’m super proud of the hard fought game, everyone worked hard. We missed a lot of tackles and assignments but we’ll bounce back.

“The good thing is we don’t have to wait 200 days to play again. We can get right back at it this week.”

The Barrington teams will return to action this weekend against Dighton-Rehoboth.
