Barrington school officials ask for better bathroom behavior

Middle school messes compromise cleanliness and hygiene standards

Families of Barrington Middle School students received an email last week, requesting some assistance regarding restrooms at the school.

According to the email, some students have been displaying some bad bathroom etiquette recently.

“It pains us to acknowledge that students have been throwing (wet and dry) paper towels, stuffing toilet paper and paper towels into urinals, and leaving excessive amounts of soap on sinktops and mirrors,” stated the email from BMS administrators.

The email further stated that most of the bad behavior is taking place in the boys restrooms.

Officials stated that the behavior undermines the efforts of the custodial staff and compromises cleanliness and hygiene standards.

“Our custodians work tirelessly to maintain a clean and safe environment for all students and staff members,” stated the email. “However, seeing their efforts go to waste when students leave deliberate messes behind is disheartening. It is important to remind our children that the custodians' role is to clean the school, not to pick up after students' deliberate actions.”

School officials are asking parents to speak with their middle school students regarding this issue.

“Encouraging our children to respect the facilities provided to them, to dispose of trash properly, and to treat the restrooms with care and consideration for others is crucial,” stated the email. “By reinforcing these values at home, we can work together to ensure that our school remains a clean and welcoming place for everyone.

“Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated. I am confident that together, we can make a positive impact and continue to cultivate a culture of responsibility and respect within our school community.”
