The Barrington tax assessor resigned on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and the deputy tax assessor resigned two days later.

Michael Minardi, who has served as the town's tax assessor for the past 14 years, would not comment on the details surrounding his resignation. He would only confirm his own resignation and that of the deputy assessor, Leanne Aldrich.

Mr. Minardi held the tax assessor position in town for 14 years, previously filling the same post in East Providence. Prior to that, Mr. Minardi worked as a real estate appraiser.

Recently, the town manager merged the tax assessor and finance departments, consolidating clerical staff and moving the assessor into a different office space inside the town hall.

Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha said the change was made in an effort to cut personnel expenditures — approximately one and a half positions were eliminated. Despite the staffing cut, the finance department's budget rose as the manager extended a large salary increase to the business and finance director.
