Three-pointers power Middletown to 60-59 win over Eagles

The Barrington High School boys basketball team built a 36-25 advantage against Middletown on Tuesday, Dec. 27, but it would not be enough as the Islanders rallied for a 60-59 win over the Eagles in an East Bay Holiday Tournament game.

Barrington outscored Middletown in the first half, powered in part by Nick Scandura, who scored 15 of his 21 points in the second quarter.

But the Islanders turned to the outside shot in the second half to narrow the gap. Middletown hit six three-pointers and used an 8-0 run in the final few minutes to overcome a 57-52 Barrington lead.

Matt Raffa finished the game with 15 points, while Sean Bonneau added 11. Matt Leonard and Ryan Rigamonti each scored four points.

The Eagles fell to 5-2 while the Islanders improved to 6-1.
