Most Barrington Little League teams will open the All Star season soon. Here is the schedule for the local teams' first games:

Softball

• 8-9-10 All Stars — Tuesday, June 29, at 5:45 p.m., Portsmouth at Barrington

• Majors All Stars — Monday, June 28, at 5:45 p.m., Barrington at Newport (Barrington opened with a loss to Portsmouth on Friday.)

Baseball

• Ron Silva All Stars — Monday, June 28, at 5:45 p.m., Portsmouth at Barrington (at Sherwood Field)

• 9-10-11 All Stars — Thursday, July 8, Bristol/Portsmouth at Barrington

• Majors All Stars — Sunday, June 27, at 5:45 p.m., Rumford at Barrington

• Juniors All Stars — Tuesday, July 6, at 5:45 p.m., Barrington at Darlington

• Seniors All Stars — Sunday, June 27, at 5:45 p.m., Barrington at Rumford

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
