The Barrington Town Council has completed its appointments to the newly-formed DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity) Committee.

At its September meeting, the council appointed seven residents to the committee, filling out the 11-member group. At an earlier meeting, the council appointed Steven Felix, Liana Maris, Braxton Howard Medlin, Glenmore Wagner and Trinki Brueckner to the committee, but Ms. Brueckner has since withdrawn because of health reasons.

On Sept. 13, the council appointed Candace Charpentier, Andrew Simon, Jennifer Castell, A. Larry Beren, Rebecca Taub, Tonya Maselli and David Mehl to the committee.

Following some interviews, members of the council began nominating applicants for the committee. Council president Michael Carroll nominated Ms. Charpentier, Ms. Taub and Mr. Mehl; Rob Humm nominated Mr. Simon and Ms. Maselli; Annelise Conway nominated Ms. Castell; and Carl Kustell nominated Mr. Beren. All those nominations were seconded and approved unanimously.

Councilor Jacob Brier nominated Waffa Freij, but that action was not seconded.

Mr. Howard Medlin will serve as chairman of the committee and Ms. Maris will be the vice chair.

Ms. Maselli and Mr. Mehl will serve as alternates.

Candace Baer, Jack Van Leer and Cynthia Kaplan all withdrew from the application process.
