Four Barrington High School golfers fired an 80 or better and helped the Eagles finish tied for second at the Hendricken Invitational on Monday, May 8.

Thayer Academy won the tournament, which was held at Warwick Country Club. Thayer finished with a team score of 304, while Barrington and St. George’s tied at 309. LaSalle Academy finished fourth at 311 and East Greenwich was fifth at 313. 

Cole Vieira led the way for Barrington. The senior finished with a 74, followed by AJ Colonna at 76 and Adam Gorman at 79. Lily Dessel scored an 80. Sean Bonneau finished the round with a score of 84 and Ian McTaggart finished at 88. 

BHS Coach Coale Kazounis said his team has been playing well. 

“I'm very happy with how the Eagles have played up to this point. We've had some great match scores coupled with two second place finishes at the Challenge Cup and Hendricken Invitational,” Kazounis wrote in an email to the Barrington Times. “We are trending in the right direction and progressing towards a successful second half of the season.”

The strong showing followed some impressive performances on Senior Day. 

On May 3, Barrington defeated Portsmouth and Rogers. The Eagles finished with a team score of 154, while Portsmouth scored a 164 and Rogers had 248. Will McConaghy played an impressive round and scored a 37, finishing with two birdies on the last two holes. Cole Vieira had a 38, Bonneau had 39, and Ryan O’Connell finished with 40. Christian Vieira fired a 41 and McTaggart had a 43. Barrington two non-competing participants were Danny Coogan, who scored a 41 and Max Sylvester, who had a 47. 

On May 1, Barrington defeated East Providence and Tiverton. The Eagles had 155, while the Townies had 178 and the Tigers had 213. Cole Vieira led the Eagles at 37, followed by Bonneau’s 38, Colonna’s 39 and Gorman’s 41. Christian Vieira finished with 43 and Dessel had 44. McTaggart and Nolan Leonard each finished at 42 and O’Connell was at 45. 

At the McCampbell Cup on April 30, Barrington entered two teams — Gold finished third at 318 and Blue finished sixth at 335. Cole Vieira led Gold with a 77, while Gorman had a 79, Bonneau had an 80 and Colonna had an 82. O’Connell paced the Blue team with a 79, followed by McTaggart’s 82, Leonard’s 86, Rocco DiMatteo’s 88. LaSalle won the tournament with a 313 and Moses Brown was second at 316.
