Barrington community event still accepting volunteers

Town officials have rescheduled the community bike path painting event.

The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, from noon to 5 p.m. at the intersection of Wood and Waseca avenues. (Originally, the town had planned to hold the event on Sept. 23, but the weather forecast calls for rain.)

The community bike path painting event will offer volunteers an opportunity to paint the “Wheel Crossing” design on the bike path connector, which runs between Waseca Avenue and the East Bay Bike Path. Kathy Palazzo submitted the design.

In addition, the Sept. 30 event will also feature a safety demonstration by the Barrington Police Department. The Barrington Lions Club will raffle off bike helmets and distribute bike safety information. Also, the club will be accepting donations of used, good condition bikes.

People can sign up at www.barrington.ri.gov/communitypainting

The bike path painting event is funded through a Rhode Island Streets Transformation Project mini-grant from the Rhode Island Department of Health, GrowSmart RI, and the Providence Streets Coalition.
