Bristol opens Fourth season with traditional Flag Day ceremony

Posted

Earlier in the day, Bristol Fourth of July Committee Chairman Michele Martins indicated that the last time a Flag Day ceremony was cancelled was approximately 40 years ago. But with weather conditions being what they were this past Monday, she, along with Fourth of July Celebration Chief Marshals Kenneth, Steve, and Michael Januario, were determined to make sure this year’s event would suffer the same fate.

“The chief marshals really wanted to have the ceremony on the Town Common as planned,” she said.

And, although it did rain in spurts a few times, the show went on as scheduled, albeit a shortened 15-minute ceremony with the remaining portion of the program held at the nearby Maritime Center.
