Charles J. Mello, Sr., 79 of Jensen Beach, Fla., passed away Sept. 9, 2021, with his family by his side at his daughter’s home in Rehoboth, Mass. He had been bravely battling with cancer for a number of years.

He was the loving husband of the late M. Jane (Motta) Mello, whom he lost last year. He devoted many years as a caregiver to her during her long illness, a duty he always took pride in.

Born in Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Charles T. Mello and Margaret (Sousa) Sartini. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol, R.I., Class of 1960. He lived most of his life in Bristol before moving to Florida several years ago.

Charlie had owned and operated his own painting company and took great pride in his work. He was a member and former Deacon of the New Hope Christian Church in Swansea, Mass. In the 1980s he went to Haiti with the church outreach program and was thankful for the experience he received there.

He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his wife, kids grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Charles J. Mello, Jr. and his girlfriend Debra of Bristol, R.I., Kris Carlone and her boyfriend John Dias of Rehoboth, Mass., and Mark C. Mello and his wife Nicole of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; his grandchildren: Mark Mello, Jr., Jeremey Mello, Nicholas Mello, Anthony Carlone and Allisa Carlone; and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary Sharron Alves.

Charlie is now at peace and resides in a mansion in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will always be in our hearts and greatly missed.

He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
