Eagles race to Class B Championship

Barrington boys track team has numerous individual champs

Postseason championships continue to pile up for the Barrington High School boys outdoor track team. 

On Sunday, May 19, the Eagles cruised to the Class B Championships, which were held at West Warwick High School. Barrington scored 226.5 points, while second-place Portsmouth finished with 87 points. Lincoln was third with 81 points, Classical was fourth with 76 points, and East Greenwich was fifth with 49 points. 

Barrington had a number of individual champions at the Class B meet. Ethan Knight won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Myles Napolitano won the 1,500-meter race. Charly Potter won the javelin and Ryan Martin won the pole vault. Iain DeBoth, Knight, Potter, and Bobby Wind teamed up to win the 4x100-meter relay.

• 1,500-meters: 6. Shea Parish

• 800-meters: 3. Brandon Piedade, 5. Daniel Chun

St. Germain Invitational

Barrington had some very strong performances at the St. Germain Invitational recently, including new school records by both the 4x100 relay team and Ethan Knight in the 300 hurdles, both breaking their own records.

Top six medaling performances were:

• The 4x100 relay team of DeBoth, Knight, Charly Potter, and Wind, second place

• Knight, first place in the 300 hurdles, second place in the 110 hurdles 

• Chucky Potter, first place in the high jump, fourth place in the pole vault

• Wind, first place in the 110 hurdles, fifth place in the 200

• Trainor, first place in the long jump

• Mello, second place in the 1,500

• Napolitano, second place in the 3000

• Charly Potter, second place in the javelin

• Satisfield, third place in the high jump

• DeBoth, fourth place 100

• DiGiacomo, fourth place 400

• Parish, fourth place in the high jump

• Piedade, fourth place in the 800

• Lesk, fifth place in the 110 hurdles

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
