The Barrington High School outdoor track teams swept the number one spots at the girls and boys Eastern Division Championship meets on Saturday, May 4.

The BHS girls team scored 211.5 points and finished well ahead of second place East Providence. Meanwhile, the Barrington High School boys team scored 325 points and cruised past the competition. Portsmouth High School finished second, with 111 points. 

Girls championship

Four members of the BHS girls team were crowned individual champions during the Eastern Division Championship meet.

Lily Cregan won the hammer throw; Kitty Wang won the discus; Ellie Noonan won the pole vault; and Jordan Roskiewicz won the 100-meter high hurdles. 

Cregan led the way for the Eagles in a sweep of the top four places in the hammer throw event. Cregan won with a distance of 130 feet-six inches, while Natalie Antonio finished second, Kitty Wang was third and Allena Kelly finished fourth. 

Wang continued her strong meet with a win in the discus, while Cregan was third in the event. Maddie Gill finished second in the javelin, with a season’s best throw of 102 feet, four inches. Antonio and Ellie Donato finished in third and fourth places, respectively. 

Roskiewicz won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 16:20. She also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles. Charlie Dimery placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. 

In the shot put, Frannie Johnson finished second overall, despite having thrown for only a couple of weeks. 

Noonan was tops in the pole vault, with a height of nine feet, six inches. Sophie Dunham was fifth overall, while Siena Leland was seventh and Johnson was eighth. 

Helena Hyde soared to a second place finish in the high jump, with a height of five feet, one inch. Charlie Dimery finished third at four feet, nine inches, and Isys Dunphy finished seventh. 

In the long jump, Sophia Ford led the Eagles with a third place finished, followed by Ava Morrissette in sixth, and Allie Ford in eighth. Sophia Ford also placed second in the triple jump, while Chelsea Duncan was fifth and Sarah Bourk was eighth. 

Kate Pearse ran to a second place finish in the 400-meter race, while Paige Davignon was seventh and Norah Abbas was eighth. 

Caroline Reznik finished fourth in the 800-meter race, and Sara Chang and Ella Reagan were seventh and eighth, respectively. In the 3,000-meter race, Evelyn Lefort had a personal best time and finished third overall. Mia He was fifth, Estelle Mentzer was seventh, and Faith Barrass was eighth. 

Barrington had a strong day in the relay events. The 4x100-meter relay team of Pearse, Dunphy, Gill and Sophia Ford finished second, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Morrissette, Faith Van Ness, Abbas and Davignon finished third. 

In the 4x800-meter relay, Maeve Kelly, Regan, Faith Barrass and Reznik teamed up to finish second. 

Boys championship

Ethan Knight and Brandon Piedade each won two individual events and helped lead the BHS boys track team to a big win in the Eastern Division Championship meet at BHS on Saturday. 

Knight sprinted to victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.27, and also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.69. 

Piedade was impressive in the 1,500-meter race, finishing with a time of 4:04.88. The senior also won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 9:06.02.

Patrick Trainor jumped 21 feet, one inch and won the long jump, while Joe Adams won the hammer throw with a distance of 179 feet, eight inches. 

Will DiGiacomo won the 400-meter race with a personal best time of 50.99 seconds. Henry Stockwell won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:04.08. 

The Eagles’ relay teams had a stellar day, winning all three relay events. The team of Bobby Wind, Charly Potter, Knight and Iain DeBoth won the 4x100-meter relay and set a new school record with a time of 43.32 seconds. 

Michael Chun, Marius Bonard, Brooks Mello and Stockwell teamed up to win the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:26.68. And the team of DiGiacomo, DeBoth, Myles Napolitano and Knight won the 4x400-meter relay event with a time of 3:33.33.
