New law for unaffiliated voters

There’s a new law that introduces a significant change for unaffiliated voters. Under the new law (RIGL 17-9.123), unaffiliated voters who participate in party primaries will maintain their unaffiliated status. This change eliminates the need for unaffiliated voters to submit a disaffiliation form post-primary.

Affiliated voters who wish to change their party affiliation must update their voter registration, with the change becoming effective in 30 days. Additionally, affiliated voters wishing to vote in a different party's primary must disaffiliate at least 30 days before the primary date.

For more information on the new law and voting procedures, please refer to official voter resources or contact your local election office.
