EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Police are investigating an automobile accident that took the life of a 71-year-old male city resident.
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, at approximately 5 p.m., police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Pawtucket Avenue, in the vicinity of Silver Spring Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located a man in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. Officers began life-saving procedures, which were continued by the East Providence Fire Department. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The pedestrian was later identified as Jose Rodrigues.
The operator of the striking vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police. The East Providence Police Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. No further information was released.
