EAST PROVIDENCE — A multi-car accident at the intersection of Pawtucket Avenue and Waterman Avenue involving an East Providence Police officer snarled afternoon drive-time traffic on Wednesday, May 26.

According to eyewitnesses, the police SUV with lights and siren blaring was heading northbound on Pawtucket Avenue approaching the intersection of Waterman Avenue when it glanced off another SUV and struck a third vehicle from behind. The police vehicle then swerved across the lane and came to rest against a walking signal light.

About a dozen policemen came upon the scene minutes after the accident occurred at 5:20 p.m. and immediately began to tend to any injured parties and investigate the scene.
