PROVIDENCE — Superstar Lisa Raye led the West Warwick High School girls' to their second consecutive title while the neighboring Barrington boys captured the program's first-ever crown at the 2024 Rhode Island Interscholastic League Outdoor Track and Field State Championship Meet held Saturday, June 1, at Conley Stadium.

Raye, the Wizards' ridiculously talented sophomore, earned 40 of West Warwick's 76 points total with her four individual victories in the sprints and hurdles events.

Cranston West was second in the female ranks with 59 points. Cumberland was third with 56. East Providence finished 11th with 25 and Providence Country Day was 32nd with one point.

The Eagles, many of whom were also members of the school's first-ever boys' indoor champs this past winter, accrued 120 points to win the male competition. Hendricken was second with 108.5 and LaSalle third with 96. East Providence was 29th with 5.5.

More girls' notes
Lisa Raye won the 100 meter dash in 11.37 seconds with sister Xenia, a junior, in second for West Warwick in 11.67.

EPHS junior standout Nazarae Phillip was fifth in 12.51 followed sophomore teammate Kendra Daniel in sixth at 12.57.

Sophomore Kendra Satinx placed eighth for PCD in 12.61, earning the lone point for the Knights at states.

The Raye sisters, Lisa and Xenia, again went 1-2 in the 200, the former running 22.73 and the latter 23.89. Lisa Raye has clocked the fastest time in the event this year in the country at the high school level.

EPHS senior Kandace Daniel picked up a point for the Townies by running eighth in 25.48.

Lisa Raye's exploits continued in the hurdles as she won both the 300 version in 42.53, with East Providence's Keira Mullen fifth in 48.49, as well as the 100 version in 14.06.

Phillip added the other solo points finish for the Townies after placing third on attempts in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. Chariho freshman Sonja Beasley won the event at 5'4." South Kingstown senior Sierra Thompson cleared 5'2" in fewer tries than Phillip to take second.

East Providence's other points came from its 4x100 relay — Aliyah Evora, the Daniel sisters and Phillip — in third with a time of 49.15 and its 4x4 quartet — Mullen, Abigail Raphael, Layla Bates and Kendra Daniel — in eighth at 4:10.16.

Classical won the 4x1 in 48.35 with Cranston West second in 48.99. The Purple also won the 4x4 in 3:59.79.

More boys' notes
The top result for the EPHS boys' contingent Saturday at states was provided by the Townies' 4x400 meter relay.

The grouping of Julius Cortes, Mac Prevete, Justin Jardine and Jaidin Ivy clocked a sixth-place time of 3:29.0. Time was two-tenths of a second faster than the previous program best set by the Russell Frye-era led Townies in 1997 (3:29.2). LaSalle won the event at states Saturday in 3:19.34.

Senior Cam Evora recorded the only two solo placements for the Townies. He placed seventh alone in the triple jump, covering a distance of 42'2.5." Evora shared eighth in the long jump at 20'5" with Mt. Pleasant's Gavin Claxton.

Konny Ezeama, a senior from Smithfield, won the triple at 44'9.75," while Patrick Trainor, a Barrington sophomore, won the long at 22'3." Eagles' mate Caleb Satisfield was second at 21'11."

Up next
Those EPHS athletes who have qualified and choose to participate will next compete in the 77th Annual New England Interscholastic Outdoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for Saturday, June 8, at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Athletes who placed among the top six finishers in their respective events at states are eligible to vie in the regional meet.
