The 26th annual Pawtucket Arts Festival presents the Slater Park Fall Festival this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, the festival will celebrate the beauty of the park and art. The festival also includes activities at the Daggett Farm, Looff Carousel, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and the historic Daggett House.

More than 100 arts and craft vendors will be showcased in this juried festival at Slater Park, which also features an ‘open air market’ of food trucks, craft, exhibitions, music and kids activities, featuring The Empowerment Factory, Rock-A-Baby, Ten 31 Productions and URI Master Gardeners.

On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the Rhode Island Philharmonic “Pops in the Park” presents its last concert of the season, followed by a fireworks display. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, located near the Daggett Farm, a Classic Car Cruise, dubbed the ‘last cruise of the season’, is featured free and open to the public.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
