Two familiar faces were recently honored for their service and commitment to the Town of Westport.

Carol Freitas, Westport's Veterans' Service Officer (VSO), received the Massachusetts Veterans Service Officer Association's VSO Award at its annual conference last month. The award goes to a service officer who "has gone above and beyond" to support the veterans in their community, is actively involved in supporting the mission of the association, and assists other services officers, town administrator James Hartnett wrote in a memo to the select board.

Martin Costa, founder of Team C.O.W. (Clean Our Westport), is one of six seniors in New England recently awarded the United Healthcare annual "Champions" award. The award recognizes anyone 65 of older who donates time and talent to better their communities. United Healthcare donated $5,000 in Costa's name to a charity of his choice, and he chose Westport's Team C.O.W. and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Dartmouth, where he is a communicant and does social activism volunteer work.
