EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Pre-Kindergarten classes recently held their annual “Reading Week” festivities, including recognition of what would have been the 118th birthday revered children’s book author Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel).
This year’s Reading Week theme was “colors,” which, according to EPSD Pre-K principal Karen Rebello, is the current Unit of Study of the Boston Public Schools Curriculum, used by all state-funded Pre-Ks around Rhode Island.
Activities included Multicultural Monday which celebrated individual heritages of pupils and staff. Students made family pictures over February break using a variety of colors and materials and also wore something to school that represented who they are.
During Dr. Seuss day, students were treated to “Rainbow Tacos,” with different colored tasty, healthy toppings to choose from. The week ended with a rainbow of fruit breakfast with a parent. Other activities included colorful clothes and pajama days, book swaps and using colorful blankets for cozy reading.
