On Thursday August 17, Gallery Night Providence will offer five free guided tours of Providence art spaces.
Four tours (at 5, 5:15, 5:45, and 6:15 p.m.) depart from the Graduate Hotel on Dorrance Street, and the 6:30 p.m. tour departs from the WaterFire Arts Center on Valley Street. The 5:15 tour is a walking tour, with all other tours conducted via mini coach or trolley. Gallery Night Partner Galleries also welcome individual visitors that evening free of charge.
This Gallery Night coincides with the closing reception for the 10th Exhibition of the Providence Biennial for Contemporary Art at WaterFire Art Center. Both the 6:15 p.m. and the 6:30 p.m. will visit the WaterFire Arts Center, where Troop Top bar will be open until 9 p.m.
Two venues – The Providence Art Club (on the 5:45 p.m. tour) and the Armenian Historical Society (on the 5 p.m. tour) – will participate in Gallery Night in August as special one-time stops this season. The Art Club will feature three exhibits. “Best of Mystic” is a juried show of works from the Mystic Museum of Art in the Maxwell Mays Gallery. In the Mary Castelnovo Gallery, “In Memoriam,” a show of work from recently passed members of the Art Club. In the Dodge House Gallery, “Diptychs and Triptychs” by Art Club members.
Visitors to the Armenian Historical Society will see two exhibits: One spans the history of migration, adaptation, survival, and success of RI Armenians from the earliest immigrants to the current community. The other addresses the 1915 Armenian Genocide and the world’s response.
Also on the 5 p.m. tour, Galerie le Domaine presents “Finding the Story,” a two-person show with paintings by Lisa Davidson and Susan Graseck. In the words of Davidson, “Each piece is a unique dream catcher of potential myth and imagination that can spark deep memories, or other-worldly stories.” Graseck says, “Ultimately, I invite viewers to bring attentiveness to the convergence of line, color, and texture in my paintings…to elicit their own distinctive responses.”
The full schedule with details on how to participate can be found on Gallery Night Providence's website.
