Hold off visiting North Kingstown in first varsity outing on turf pitch
EAST PROVIDENCE — Continuing the varsity sports debuts last weekend at the new East Providence High School athletic complex, among the components of the $189.5 million project completed in time for the start of the 2021-22 term, the host Townies defeated North Kingstown, 2-1, in the first boys’ soccer game played on the artificial turf pitch Saturday night, Sept. 11.
Ryan DeCampos, in the first half, and Max Collins, in the second, scored roughly 20 minutes into each period to put EPHS up by a pair before the visiting Skippers got on the board late to make things a bit interesting for the locals over the final quarter hour.
The Townies improved their early season Division I record to 1-0-1 and with four points in the league standings.
EPHS played host Moses Brown to a 1-1 tie in Providence earlier in the week. Ryan Paiva scored the goal for the locals while Nick Bento made four saves in the E.P. net.
