Germaine E. (ALves) Lagarto, 86, of Fountain Ave., Portsmouth, passed away on May 18. She was the wife of Louis L. Lagarto.  They were married for 65 years.

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Santos) Alves. She was the mother of Louis Lagarto of Middleboro MA and Jeanne (Mark) Oliveira of Rehoboth, Mass.; grandmother of Daniel (Shannon) Lagarto of Bristol, Travis Oliveira and Tyler Oliveira of Rehoboth; sister of Mary (Edward) Almeida of Warren, Dorothy Schinigoi of Bristol and Leonora Muccino of Warren. She was the sister of the late John, Edmund, Joseph and Manuel Alves, Mable Soares and Alice Travers.

Germaine attended Bristol schools and was a electronics assembler for Hartman Systems for 11 years before retiring.

All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Wednesday, June 18, 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church 577 Wood St. Burial will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
