Herreshoff Marine Museum is offering a Bristol Garden Walking Tour for flora enthusiasts on Thursday, June 10. Twelve friends of Herreshoff have opened up their gates for the morning (only) revealing herbaceous secrets and earthly treasures for Herreshoff members and the general public.
This is the first time the maritime museum has hosted such an event and Ted Regan, the organizer and Director of Advancement at the Herreshoff Marine Museum explained the rationale this way:
“Gardeners and wooden boat enthusiasts have much in common- both find amusement and delight from goods that are hand-crafted. Whether it be a well considered garden or a well constructed boat each required considerable work and creative energy as well as thoughtful planning.”
This event which will start at the Museum and extend from one end of Hope Street to the other, including several side streets, is certain to amuse and delight with many not seen by the public before and several crafted by master gardeners. In fact, it is rumored one garden had their landscape architect / designer flown from Perth, Australia to consult when the owners acquired this gorgeous home several years ago.
Regan, having never put together a garden tour before, consulted local subject matter experts Gail Burmeister (VP, Bristol Garden Club) and Gary Watros (Master Gardener), both friends of museum, and they generously offered many good ideas and suggestions including where the best gardens were! Naturally, both of their exquisite gardens will be in the tour!
The museum sees this more of a friend raiser than a fundraiser, eager to gather their community now that the plaque has been arrested. For more informatiuon and tickets, visit herreshoff.org.
