BRISTOL'S MARITIME TRADES, A LOOK AT THE REMAINS OF BRISTOL'S HISTORIC SEAPORT DAYS.
As a maritime-based town, much of Bristol’s history and subsequent development was determined by the people involved in the town's seafaring economy. In this tour, BH&PS Historian Rei Battcher explores Bristol's 18th- and 19th-century merchants, especially those involved in the slave, European, and China trades, who built not just mansions with their wealth, but also warehouses, ropewalks, and other buildings that were necessary for trade activities. Participants on this tour will visit the many parts of this history that still stand. This tour has two versions (same theme, different sites). Today's tour is Version 1 and begins at the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society, 48 Court Street, Bristol. No reservations required.
