An Irish Folk Music and Dance event featuring step dancer Kevin Doyle and Roscommon Soles will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, from 3 to 6 p.m., free at King Park, Newport. Performing on the gazebo stage at 4:30 p.m. is award-winning dancer Kevin Doyle of Barrington, with his latest musical project, Roscommon Soles, featuring master folk artists: singer/storyteller/bodhran player Mary Lee Partington, fiddler Sheila Falls, guitarist Tim Keohane, and uilleann piper Torrin Ryan.

Guest dancers will be sister Maureen Doyle and youth dancer Keira Nagle. A formal Ceili dance is not planned but dancing on the grass is welcome. Kevin Doyle received the 2014 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship in Irish Dance, the highest honor bestowed on a traditional artist in the U.S. He performs at concerts from the Obama White House to the Newport Folk Festival, and teaches and advocates for traditional Irish dance and American tap dance.

The music starts at 3 p.m. with Newport’s Rhode to Dublin, followed by the new Turas ensemble at 3:30 p.m. with four singers and multiple instrumentalists, including former Pendragon cofounder Bob Drouin on fiddle/flute/ guitar, Josh Kane on flute/whistle, Rob McConeghy on piano, and Dean Robinson on bodhran/bones/djembe/whistle. Harpist and dulcimer player Mary King welcomes attendees.

This event concludes this season’s Waterfront Concerts at King Park series presented free by Newport Friends of the Waterfront and made possible by the Isham Family Fund.
