Mr. Nutini’s otherwise thoughtful letter (4/26/2023) regarding student input on the school board, while highlighting what the school board might learn from the student, failed to mention what the student(s) might learn from the school board. In addition to having the real world experience of participating in the school board deliberations, they would be given the opportunity to model the behavior of a group of people who are paragons of civic engagement. Such a life lesson would be priceless.
Perhaps if the title of the participating student were changed from non-voting school board member to student liaison, the dissenting members could see their way to having a student participant to everyone’s benefit.
