Letter: Continued deer hunting is beyond disappointing

To the editor:

At their last meeting, the Bristol Town Council made the unfortunate decision to continue the bow and arrow deer hunt on 4 pieces of town owned land that they approved last year, and what angers me even more than that decision is that they didn't even consider trying less lethal means of controlling the deer population.

Last year's deer hunt in Bristol caused a plethora of problems for the town, including hunters trespassing on private property, adults and children being subjected to seeing injured deer with arrows sticking out of their bodies being chased down by hunters while they were bleeding and suffering, and numerous instances of altercations between hunters and opponents of the deer hunt where law enforcement intervention was necessary.

The least the town council could have done at their last meeting was to try a non lethal program to control the deer population, a method that has proven successful in other parts of the country, but instead they chose to ignore those options and gave their unanimous approval to the brutal and inhumane bow and arrow hunting which will be beginning next month.

I'm beyond disappointed by the actions of our town council regarding their approval of this deer hunt, and my only hope is that they reconsider their poor decision to allow this bow and arrow hunting on town owned land to continue, and spare these beautiful animals any more suffering.
