Letter: Ferry can be safe for walking, not for biking

Posted

Having lived on Fesser Avenue for 40 years (parallel to Ferry Road), I am well aware of the foot, car and cycling traffic in the area proposed for the bike path along the west side of Ferry Road. In fact, I  have cycled up Ferry Road and over the Mt. Hope Bridge … neither is for the unfit or the faint of heart.

I also use the roughed out pathway frequently to walk my dog along the west side of Ferry Road, as do many others.

For all the reasons many have stated in these pages and at town-sponsored meetings, this path is not appropriate for a two-way bicycle lane, but it is very much appropriate and welcomed as an improved walking path.

This makes the most sense, is practical, will be used, and will be appreciated.
