Primrose Hill School has a new principal. 

On Wednesday morning, May 29, the district announced that Dawn August has been selected as the new Primrose Hill School Principal. Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore shared the news in a district-wide email. 

“This decision is the result of a thorough and extensive search process that was led by a diverse committee of stakeholders from across the district and community, including parents, teachers, special education and pupil personnel staff, building principals, and members of the district’s administrative team,” Messore wrote.

“Over the course of the school year, the principal screening committee has diligently vetted each candidate and ensured a thorough and fair selection process.”

Messore wrote that August, who has been with Barrington Public Schools since 1990, set herself apart from the other principal candidates. 

“Last week, district principals and administration interviewed two finalists recommended by the screening committee. As part of the second round of interviews, each finalist had the opportunity to answer questions from all principals that covered a range of important topics like instructional support and leadership, community engagement, and strategies for student success,” Messore wrote.

“Ms. August stood out to the search committee for her exceptional qualifications, her elementary education and leadership experience, and her dedication to our community.”

Messore wrote that August holds certifications in Administrator of Curriculum and Instruction, Building Level Administrator PK-12, and District Level Administrator for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. 

Since joining the district, August has filled numerous roles, including elementary school teacher, literacy coordinator, reading specialist, multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) coordinator, and, recently, interim principal. 

“This year, especially, Ms. August has been actively involved in the Primrose Hill community,” Messore wrote. “Prior to assuming the role of interim principal in January, she collaborated with the School Improvement Team, established subcommittees, provided instructional support, and facilitated curriculum meetings across all grade levels. Her daily presence and leadership have been crucial in supporting our school's ongoing progress this academic year.”

Messore wrote that the screening committee was particularly impressed by August’s vision for Primrose Hill School, her commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, and her track record of supporting students, families and staff.

“We are confident that, as principal, she will continue to build on the strengths of Primrose Hill School,” Messore wrote.
