Maria (DeCosta) Sampaio, 93, Warren

Maria (DeCosta) Sampaio, 93, passed away, Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at home.

She was the wife of the late Francisco P. Sampaio.

Born in the Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Guilhermina (Menses) DeCosta.

Mrs. Sampaio had worked at The Warren Handkerchief Factory for 30 years, retiring in 2008. She was a Communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren.

She is survived by two sons, Francisco C. Sampaio and his wife Guilhermina of Warren, R.I., and John M. Sampaio and his wife Kim of Swansea, Mass.; a daughter, Evelyn M. Miranda and her husband Joe of Warren, R.I.; a sister, Guilhermina Miranda of the Azores; nine grandchildren, Donna, Steven, Sandra, Joseph, Justin, Jonathan, Andrew, Bryan and Jordan, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Joseph C. Sampaio.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 8 a.m., from Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Ave., Warren.

Burial will take place in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street, Warren.
