Mary “Margie” (Castro) Palumbo, 84, of Sherry Ave., passed away on Dec. 24.  She was the wife of Frank Palumbo.

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Manuel F. and Alexandrina Vieira (Mattos) Castro. She attended Bristol schools and was a proud homemaker for her husband and two sons, and had also worked at Bristol Manufacturing Co. and Taylor Box Co. She retired in 1979.

In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by her sons, Gary Palumbo and his wife Mary Lou, and Bruce Palumbo; her sister, Irene Erickson and her husband David; a sister-in-law, Tina Castro; granddaughters Alison Mello and her husband Jon, and Alyssa Palumbo; and great granddaughters Alaina Mello and Julia Mello. She was the sister of the late Joseph “Lefty” Castro and Manuel “Funny Bird” Castro.

Mrs. Palumbo was happiest in retirement spending time with family, baking, taking pictures, playing music on her organ and being with her friends. She loved taking rides to Colt State Park with her husband, Frank, and spending time at Dunkin Donuts. She grew up in Bristol and was quite content enjoying all of the beautiful things that her little town of Bristol has to offer. She was very proud of her sons and always looked forward to family gatherings.

Fourth of July and Christmas were special times at the Palumbo household, where Margie got to display her culinary treats. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, both of whom spent considerable time with her as children. Margie was also able to enjoy her great grandchildren, who she saw grow into beautiful teenagers.

Mrs. Palumbo had a way of always making others feel special, a unique trait that she carried with her through life. Mary “Margie” Palumbo will be deeply missed.

Her funeral services were held Dec. 29 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Luis Dutra at St. Elizabeth Church. Liturgical readings were by Alison Mello and Mary Lou Palumbo. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Alaina Mello. The offertory gifts were presented by Alaina Mello, Julia Mello and Alyssa Palumbo. The eulogy was given by Alison Mello. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Palumbo, Bruce Palumbo, Jon Mello, Ken Castro, John Amaral, Kenneth Sousa and Leonard Barboza.

Memorial donations may be made to: American Cancer Society,
