‘Mr. Magoo,’ ‘Mother Teresa’ win votes in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — There were no “Santa for School Committee” signs posted anywhere in Portsmouth in the days leading up to the election, but the big man got a vote anyway.

The same can be said for Homer Simpson, Mother Teresa and Mr. Magoo, all of whom were write-ins at the polls here on Election Day.

Oh, and “Peggy from Clements”? You’ll be pleased to know that one voter thinks you would have made a fine addition to the school board.

For more, read about some of the crazy write-ins by voters in Warren and Bristol.

As is the case in every election, some voters got creative and went outside the ballot to pick their own candidates for office — friends, family members, cartoon characters, even friendly grocery store workers.

In a few cases, they even made a point of writing “Anyone Else,” or “Not These Two.”

Here’s a list of some of the write-ins in Portsmouth. Check it out — maybe you'll find your own name.
