The Newport Historical Society hosts walking tours on Saturdays through October. All tours depart at 11 a.m. This week's theme is "Creative Survival." Visitors can discover the early history of Newport’s people of color, enslaved and free. Explore the places where enslaved people lived and labored, along with locations where free African Americans built their enterprises and supported a new local industry. This tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Tickets should be purchased online in advance of the tour to guarantee availability.
Walking tours depart outside of the Museum of Newport History at the Brick Market, located at the foot of Washington Square, 127 Thames St., Newport RI. Attendees should look for a sandwich board sign indicating where to check in with the guide and depart for the tour to the north of the building near the flagpole.
